The Art of the Second Act
Some people find their calling in a straight line. Mine took quite a detour through 25 years of IT Project Management. While I spent years navigating the digital and the networked infrastructure, there was always a pull of something more tactile — and significantly, more human.
Spratt.co is the result of that shift. It’s where the precision of my past meets the soul of the past.
The Aesthetic: Modern. Vintage. Slick.
Based in Stroud by way of Brighton, I create work that sits at the intersection of history and graphic design. My process is centred on breathing new life into the ephemeral:
The Printed Word: Typographic quotations set against the textured, amber-hued backdrop of genuine vintage newspapers.
The Sense of Place: Map-based pieces that celebrate where we’ve been and where we’re going, rendered with a clean, contemporary edge.
The Curation: Every piece is an exercise in “neatness” — balancing the organic imperfections of aged paper with the sharp, deliberate lines of modern art.
Why Vintage?
I’ve always been drawn to things that have already lived a life. There is a specific humour and gravity in placing a bold, modern thought onto a page that was printed fifty years ago. It’s about more than just “upcycling”; it’s about the contrast between the fleeting news of yesterday and the timeless ideas of today.
From the Gallery to Your Wall
The transition from the office to the studio was validated when I sold my first piece at exhibition — a moment that confirmed what I already felt: people are looking for art that feels both storied and sophisticated.
Whether you are a collector of the Cotswold creative scene or someone who just appreciates a well-placed serif on a piece of history, I’m glad you’re here.
